Save money when ordering online

Lots of us order items online, especially now as we head into gift-buying season.  But before you place your order, do one thing that can save you 5%, 10%, free shipping or more!  Just google the name of the store and the words "coupon code" and see if you come up with anything.  Or visit a site like http://www.retailmenot.com/ and see if the store you are purchasing from is listed.  Lots of times you'll find a code that you then enter when you place your online order.  Sometimes, just by joining the company's e-mail list, they'll send you a code for a percentage off your order.  I set up a special e-mail address through g-mail that I use exclusively for promos and offers, so I don't mix those up with my day-to-day e-mails.  I just ordered a set of adorable bowls from http://www.laprimashops.com/ and got 5% off my order.  Hey, every little bit helps!
BTW, will post about online ordering safety in an upcoming blog.
Please post your success stories about discounts!

  1. I try and remember to always do this sort of search before ordering online. The $ off is not as good these days as it was years ago, but free shipping makes is all worthwhile. Plus, depending where you and the company are located, are there still ways around sales tax in some cases?

  2. That's a really good question Angie. If you buy a product from a seller who is located in a different state than you, and it does not have a physical presence in your state, then the seller does not have to charge you sales tax. However technically, you are supposed to pay a "use tax" to your state on that purchase. That is hard for states to monitor and collect. Some people think we will see a big push by states for internet sales tax and use taxes, since they need the revenue.

  3. Bob ordered some fun learning software for Paige last night and save over $20 bucks on a $50 order by searching and finding a discount coupon code online before placing his order! Yay! Nice work, Bob!
